The Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP) was founded in 2002, driven by a vision to build a healthier nation through expert public health leadership. Established with support from the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC), the University of Zimbabwe, the Field Epidemiology Training Programme (ZFETP), and the World Health Organization (WHO),the College was created to bring together public health physicians dedicated to addressing. From its inception, ZCPHP has played a pivotal role in shaping public health policy,strengtening health systems, and advancing research. It has become the premier platform for public health specialists, influencing legislation, emergency response strategies, and professional development for practitioners across Zimbabwe and beyond.

What We Do

Building Resilient Health Systems

Throughout the years, ZCPHP has remained at the forefront of national and regional health initiatives. We have advocated for evidence-based policies, supported the creation of a National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), and worked alongside global partners like ECSA, WHO, and Africa CDC to improve public health governanceZCPHP Winter Symposium. 

One of our key milestones was leading efforts in establishing the ECSA College of Public Health Physicians, which is set to enhance professional accreditation and collaboration for public health practitioners across the regionZCPHP Newsletter.

The ZCPHP Provides a Platform For:

Capacity Building: Facilitating Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions to enhance public health practice across Zimbabwe​.
Policy Advocacy: Influencing public health legislation and championing reforms like the establishment of the Zimbabwe National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI)​
Research Excellence: Conducting impactful research to inform health strategies, with a focus on non-communicable diseases, climate resilience, and digital health​
Emergency Response: Collaborating with the MoHCC and other stakeholders to manage public health emergencies, including cholera outbreaks and pandemic preparedness​

Empowering Public Health Professionals

At ZCPHP, we believe that continuous learning and professional development are critical in strengthening Zimbabwe’s public health workforce. Through our Continuing Medical

Our Achievements

1)Cholera Response Leadership
The ZCPHP played a pivotal role in responding to the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe, offering technical expertise and direct support:

Procurement and Donations: Allocated $600 for intravenous fluids to support affected areas such as Mashonaland West

Community Engagement: Facilitated health education sessions and community dialogues in partnership with the City of Harare

Capacity Building: Hosted a high-impact Cholera CME featuring speakers from WHO, UNICEF, World Vision, and MoHCC

Strategic Support: Collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Child Care at multiple levels to enhance outbreak management​

2)Strengthened Regional Collaboration
Actively supported the establishment of the East, Central, and Southern Africa College of Public Health Physicians (ECSA), fostering regional public health partnerships​

3)Advancing Digital Health
Spearheaded initiatives integrating AI, machine learning, and big data into public health strategies, improving data-driven decision-making and outbreak forecasting​ZCPHP Harnessing AI, ML

4)Capacity Building Through Education
Organized CME events addressing emerging topics such as climate resilience, digital health, and non-communicable diseases. These events bring together global and local experts to share insights and best practices

5)Community Health Campaigns
Led impactful campaigns to tackle health challenges, including:

Raising awareness of antimicrobial resistance in collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Society​

Highlighting mental health issues among male healthcare workers during Men’s Mental Health.

Promoting accessible PrEP for vulnerable communities on International

6)Policy Advocacy
Contributed to the National Health Insurance stakeholder engagements and legal reforms such as the Health Professions Amendment Bill

7)Emergency Preparedness
Established the ZCPHP Expert Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR), which provides continuous technical support to national and regional stakeholders during public health crises​
